Four knitted mascots carry their skis through a snowy village to the gondola

01 — Winter with the family

80.000 square metres where only children ski.

Bertas Kinderland is at the Sonnenbahn mid-station, between Fiss and Ladis. It is the meeting point for all children's ski lessons in Fiss-Ladis. At around 80.000 square metres, it is one of the largest children's ski areas in the Alps.

Together with the region's two other areas, that makes 125.000 square metres reserved for children. Two ski schools with more than 700 ski instructors teach there.

What children notice: they are never in anyone's way. No adults ski up behind them into their path, and conveyor belts replace any lifts they are too small to use.

02 — Getting there

Six to seven minutes on foot. Then the gondola.

The Waldbahn and Schönjochbahn are a six to seven-minute walk from our door. No ski bus, no shuttle, no searching for a parking space in the morning, and no children getting restless on the bus before the day has even begun.

From the top, take the Sonnenbahn to the middle station, where you'll find Kinderland. In the evening, follow the same route back, with a downhill walk to finish.

03 — Where to meet

Fiss on the left, Kinderland in the middle, Ladis on the right.

The meeting points for ski lessons are all along the same route: down in the village by the ski school offices, or up at the middle station in Kinderland. Once you know where yours is, you'll find it every morning.

The Fiss-Ladis ski school decides on meeting points and groups, rather than us.

04 — Ski lessons

From age three, in small groups.

The Fiss-Ladis ski school runs a dedicated Bambini course in Kinderland for little ones aged three and over, alongside children's groups and separate courses for teenagers.

The ski school sets the courses, times and prices, rather than us, and they change each season. Tell us how old your children are when you book. We'll tell you where to meet on the first morning and book you in if you'd like.

05 — Ski storage

Four pairs of ski boots that no one has to carry.

Ski storage at Intersport Pregenzer, right by the base station, is free for our guests, and we reserve it in advance. With children, it makes all the difference between an easy morning and a tiring one.

On the day you arrive, take your equipment up by car. You can stop briefly outside the shop to unload. Inside, show the orange ski storage cards from our reception. You only need to empty your lockers the day before you leave.

06 — When ski lessons start earlier

Breakfast from 8 am. Earlier is fine too.

Breakfast is usually from 8 am to 10 am. If your ski lessons start earlier, just come down earlier. At 7 am we haven't quite finished setting up, but the coffee is ready, the bread rolls are out, along with most of the cold dishes and the first hot ones too.

07 — Where you’ll stay

A room where everyone can sleep.

The Family Suite has a separate children’s room with two beds. The Superior has a sofa bed that we make up for your child. Families staying with us don’t have to split up across two rooms.

A suite with room for everyone

The Family Suite has 50 square metres of space and sleeps two to five people. You all sleep in one suite, without having to split up across two rooms. The sofa beds are by Joka and feel like a proper bed.

A separate children’s room in the suite

The Family Suite has a double bedroom and a separate children’s room with two single beds. For little ones aged zero to two, we provide a cot with bed linen free of charge.

A bathroom and balcony too

Rates for children sharing their parents’ room depend on their age, not how many there are. Tell us their ages when you enquire, and we’ll include the price in our reply.

08 — When not everyone wants to ski

Tobogganing, winter walks, a day off the slopes.

Not every child wants ski lessons every day, and not every adult wants to hit the slopes every day.

Every sports shop in the village hires out toboggans. Please book ahead for evening tobogganing. Winter hiking paths and cross-country ski trails are shown on the region’s winter map. There are around 30 kilometres of cross-country trails, including 8,4 kilometres at high altitude.

And if heading outside is out of the question: downstairs in FREIRAUM you’ll find board games, books and highchairs. The room is open until 9 pm.

09 — In the evening

Sauna until 8 pm, children until 6 pm.

The Finnish sauna, bio herbal sauna, steam room and infrared cabin are open daily from 4 pm to 8 pm at no extra charge. Children under 15 are welcome until 6 pm, accompanied by an adult.

Afterwards, coffee and hot chocolate, bread and cold cuts in FREIRAUM, and Pinsa Romana as an evening pop-up. You’ll need to pre-order the Pinsa Romana.

We're a Bed & Breakfast, not a half-board hotel. A good breakfast in the morning, your own light supper in the evening: bring your own, buy something from us or order one of our bread boxes.
