Mountain bike holiday in Tyrol: tips for bike park and tours
29 July 2021

Fancy exploring the Tyrolean mountains on two wheels? To make your bike trip a good trip, we have put together a little guide for you! The following 5 questions should help you tailor your mountain bike holiday perfectly to your needs.
The perfect mountain bike holiday in Tyrol in 5 steps
1. E-bike or classic mountain bike?
If a cycling holiday is a fairly new experience for you, you should ask yourself beforehand whether you would rather ride with electric assistance or with muscle power alone. An e-bike is the right choice if you plan to cover long distances without completely wearing yourself out. A classic mountain bike, on the other hand, is a great companion if you want to stay flexible and nimble and if you already have a bit of training behind you. Tip: whatever you set off on, a thorough safety check is an absolute must!
2. Family fun, couple's holiday or solo trip?
A mountain bike holiday can be many things, from leisurely cruising in a group to wild downhill fun. If you are travelling with others, it is of course important to sound out your companions' needs beforehand. After all, there are nicer things than days of sore muscles because your better half wanted to push you to excessive feats. And kids are not always happy about being towed over bumpy gravel roads in a bike trailer for too long either. So better: take concerns seriously, start slowly, and if you have not had enough yourself… simply head out again on your own and let off steam on a little downhill run, for example!
3. Where does a cycling holiday in the Alps make sense?
In theory you can cycle anywhere in the Alps, but unfortunately it is not fun everywhere. Especially in areas poorly developed for tourism you sometimes get a nasty surprise when the signposted mountain bike route turns out to be a busy pass road you have to share with cars and motorbikes. You avoid that risk by choosing a cycling holiday in an alpine holiday paradise like the Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis region in Tyrol. Extra bonus: since the pistes are busy here in winter, you benefit from the lift infrastructure in summer too and cover a few hundred metres of altitude relaxing in the gondola.
4. How do I find the right mountain bike hotel?
To make your bike holiday as relaxed as possible, it is important that your accommodation suits your needs. At dedicated mountain bike hotels, like ours at the GEBHARD, we make sure you can really relax after a long tour. And your bike is in good hands with us too: it is not only stored safely while you recharge in our restaurant, the sauna or the steam bath. If needed you can even get your bike back in shape in our own mini workshop with our professional tools!
5. How do I choose a cycling route that suits me?
Here in the mountain bike and e-bike region of Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis you are really spoilt for choice: over 70 kilometres of cycle routes are waiting to be discovered! But how do you find a mountain bike route that really suits you? Our tip is clear: ask the old hands! Experienced cyclists who know the area usually have great recommendations up their sleeve. What matters, though, is that you describe your fitness level and your bike to them precisely beforehand. And if no cycling pros in full kit happen to cross your path, our GEBHARD team is of course on hand with local tips and route recommendations!
