Our own beer, Kellerbier and Pils

Clemens's dad has a small dance bar in Imst. The bar was already legendary in my parents' day. Back then the beer was brewed exclusively for their own bar. Long before craft beer and home brewing became a trend. Like his dad, Clemens caught the brewing bug. One evening we decided to brew our own Gebhard beer. It turned out a light, hoppy beer whose original gravity sits between Kellerbier and Pils.

Kellerbier

Kellerbier is not a strictly defined beer style but rather a collective term for naturally cloudy, unfiltered lagers. According to the BJCP, Kellerbier is an unfiltered, unpasteurised, fully fermented German lager, traditionally served from lagering casks. It may be slightly hazy, but not murky.

Pils

Pils is a bottom-fermented, usually clear-filtered beer. A Pils typically has an original gravity of around eleven per cent. A Kellerpils is a Pils served naturally cloudy.

Original gravity

Original gravity is the content of dissolved solids in the wort before fermentation. Kellerbiers generally have the original gravity of their base style.
